加纳利犬是一种由斗犬发展而来的犬种。它的祖先可能包括当地濒临灭绝的巴迪诺马杰咯犬，以及引进的英国獒的后代。到20世纪60年代为止，这一品种濒临灭绝，但后来被美国兽医大学卡欧斯莫塞克(Carl Semencic)博士挽救。</P>

<P>9.怪异杀手牛头梗 </P>
<P> 属英国血统，名称源自19世纪名为“bull and terrier”的犬种，该犬种由斗牛犬(Bulldog)和已灭绝的黑棕褐梗(Black and Tan Terrier)杂交而来。现代牛头梗据信是由已经灭绝了的英国白梗(English White Terrier)与斗牛犬、大麦町(Dalmatian)，以及西班牙波音达(Spanish Pointer)、灵缇(Greyhound)、惠比特（Whippet）和猎狐犬(Foxhound)培育而来。有迹象显示，为使牛头梗的头部显得更长，在培育过程中还引入了俄国狼犬(Borzoi)和柯利犬(Collie)的血统。
大约在1850年，英国犬商James Hinks开始培育牛头梗。（据说Hinks家族直到现在还在从事牛头梗产业。）受当时人们喜爱白色宠物的影响，Hinks全力培育白色的牛头梗。在 1862年5月的伯明翰狗展上，Hinks展出的接近现代形态的白色牛头梗立刻轰动全场，被誉为最时髦的狗。白牛头梗随即成为最流行的宠物狗。在此后的一段时间里，只有白色的品种被称为牛头梗，也只有白色的品种可以参加狗展，所以这个品种被称为“白色骑士”，以彰显其高贵。 </P>
