Heaven 3. earth 4.the commander 5. method and discipline <br/> 道者，令民于上同意 <br/> The moral law CAUSES the people to be in COMPLETE ACCORD with their RULER <br/><br/> 令，用的是 cause. <br/> 同意，用的是 in complete accord with <br/> 上，用的不是 governor 或 government,而是 ruler <br/> <br/> 看来萨达姆要多学学这一句话 <br/><br/>势者，因利而制权也 <br/> according as circumstances are favorable, one should modify one‘s plan <br/><br/>兵者，诡道也 <br/> All warfare is BASED ON deception <br/><br/>故能而示之不能 <br/> Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable <br/><br/>用而示之不用 <br/> When using our forces, we must seem inactive <br/> 四渡赤水？ <br/><br/>近而示之远， <br/> when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away <br/><br/>利而诱之，乱而取之 <br/> Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him. <br/><br/>实而备之，强而避之 <br/> If he is secured at all points, be prepared for him； <br/> If he is IN SUPERIOR STRENGTH, evade him <br/> <br/> 打不过就跑 <br/><br/>卑而骄之 <br/> Pretend to be weak, THAT he may grow arrogant <br/>攻其无备，出其不意 <br/> <br/> Attack him where he is unprepared; <br/> Appear where you are not expected <br/><br/>夫未战而庙算胜者，得算多也 <br/> <br/> Now the general wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple where the battle is fought <br/><br/><br/>其用战也，胜久则钝兵挫锐 <br/> <br/> <br/> When you ENGAGE IN actual fighting, if victory is LONG IN COMING, then men‘s weapons will grow dull and their ardor will be DAMPED <br/> <br/> long in coming, damped 都用的很好 <br/> <br/> 英美联军对萨达姆的胜利会不会 Long in coming 呢？等着瞧吧 <br/><br/><br/>久暴师则国用不足 <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> Again, if the campaign is protracted, the resource of the state will not BE EQUAL TO the STRAIN <br/> <br/> 举例：my salary will not equal to your spending if you keep buying these luxuries <br/> <br/> 句句讲到了点子上啊，美国是不是也将面临类似问题？ <br/>夫兵久而国利者，未之有也。 <br/> <br/> <br/> THERE IS NO INSTANCE OF a country having benefited from prolonged warfare <br/> <br/> example: there is no instance of achieving success without working hard <br/><br/>敌则能战之，少则能逃之，不若则能避之。 <br/> <br/> <br/> If equally matched, we can offer battle; <br/> if slightly INFERIOR in numbers, we can avoid the enemy; <br/> if unequal IN EVERY WAY, we can flee from him <br/><br/>故曰：知己知彼，百战不贻 <br/> <br/> Hence the saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not to fear the result of a hundred battles <br/><br/><br/> 昔之善战者，先为不可胜，以待敌之可胜。 <br/> <br/> <br/> The good fighter of old first PUT THEMSELVES BEYOND THE POSSIBILITY OF defeat, and then wait for the opportunity of defeating the enemy <br/> <br/> 句型：put sb beyond the possibility of （doing） sth <br/><br/><br/>夫兵形象水 <br/> <br/> Military tactics are like unto water <br/><br/>水之行避高而趋下 <br/> <br/> <br/> for water IN ITS NATURE COURSE runs away from high places and hastens downwards <br/><br/>故将有五危，必死可杀，必生可虏，忿速可侮，廉洁可辱，爱民可烦。 <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general: (1) Recklessness, which leads to destruction; (2) cowardice, which leads to capture; (3) a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults; (4) a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame; (5) over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble <br/> <br/> 敬畏 </font><br/></span> |
