约瑟夫.洛克,美籍植物学家,1922-1935在美国<国家地理>发表记录梅里雪山的文章
      詹姆斯.希尔顿 James Hilton, 美籍英国作家, 1933年出版《消失的地平线》,后经好莱坞搬上银幕, 使香格里拉和梅里雪山世界闻名在拉萨甚至有这样的传说：登上布达拉宫便可在东南方向的五彩云层之中看到卡格博的身影，可见其颠之高，其辉之远。
 藏区流传的指南经引人入佛境：“……卡瓦格博外形如八座佛光赫弈的佛塔，内似千佛簇拥集会诵经……。具佛缘的千佛聚于顶上，成千上万个勇猛空行盘旋于四方。这神奇而令人向往的吉祥圣地，有缘人拜祭时，会出现无限奇迹。带罪身朝拜，则殊难酬己愿……。”
在指南经中，对外转路线沿途所有景物，皆依佛教的内容作指引和解说，因此，所有景物都成了佛的印迹灵物。据佛教之说法，佛性的有缘之人都可在转经时得如意妙果，护佑今生来世。转经路上可见诸多玛尼堆群，刻写堆集了朝拜者的朝佛心愿。
在藏文经卷中，梅里雪山的13座<chmetcnv wst="on" unitname="米" sourcevalue="6000" hasspace="False" negative="False" numbertype="1" tcsc="0">6000米</chmetcnv>以上的高峰，均被奉为“修行于太子宫殿的神仙”，特别是主峰卡格博，被尊奉为“藏传佛教的八大神山之首”。
