明正德六年（1425年），径山寺寺僧惠城等就提出废“十方主持制”为“分房制”，将该寺分成十八房，由各房推荐寺僧主持各房事务，主持无权过问。据《径山寺志》记载，“至此山寺愈加衰败,明万历三十六年（1608年）大殿倾颓，但分房后一直无人过问，就连明神宗颁赐藏经在三十几年后的1644年，也莫名其妙地烟灰飞灭了。      寺庙在南宋时香火鼎盛，是江南五大禅院之首。规模极为宏大，有寺僧1700余众，寺庙建筑1000多间。寺殿由于战乱和失修，原有建筑基本无存，现仅剩钟楼一座，内悬明永乐元年大种一口，宋代铁佛三尊，元至正年山历代祖师碑一块。钟楼外有宋代孝宗御书“径山兴圣万寿禅寺”石碑一块，明代铁鼎一只。在90年代初期得到重修，现在看到的是金壁辉煌的寺庙。正对门处有一副雕刻的九龙图青石墙（九龙照壁）。入寺门票五元。忘了拍九龙壁，从网上找了张给大家看看。<img src="attachments/dvbbs/2007-4/20074192183498104.jpg" border="0" onload="if(this.width>screen.width*0.7) {this.resized=true; this.width=screen.width*0.7; this.alt=\'Click here to open new window\nCTRL+Mouse wheel to zoom in/out\';}" onmouseover="if(this.width>screen.width*0.7) {this.resized=true; this.width=screen.width*0.7; this.style.cursor=\'hand\'; this.alt=\'Click here to open new window\nCTRL+Mouse wheel to zoom in/out\';}" onclick="if(!this.resized) {return true;} else {window.open(\'attachments/dvbbs/2007-4/20074192183498104.jpg\');}" onmousewheel="return imgzoom(this);" alt="" />
