1号线：1号线在东端分成Y型临平和下沙支线。下沙支线东起下沙二号大街，途经下沙城公交中心，再到九堡组团中心；临平支线北起临平城区，连接临平特色商贸区，经杭海路连接规划中的高速铁路车站。两条支线在九堡客运中心和主线形成单向同站台换乘后，继续向西至火车东站，在火车东站与4号线形成双向同站台换乘，然后向西到武林门广场一带沿延安路向南，在西湖大道经城站火车站，向东南过江后往南至西兴镇，终点至湘湖旅游度假区。

　 2号线：西起良渚瓶窑片区及经良渚片区到古墩路，连接文二路，再向南转到保俶北路，继续沿保俶路转到庆春路和4号线形成单向同站台换乘。经钱江新城过江，过江后沿市中心路向南至蜀山车辆段。2号线位于城市最主要的客流走廊之上，是轨道线网中的骨干线。

　　3号线：西起留下、沿天目山路，途经汽车西站，向东到武林门广场后向北经河东路、上塘路，然后往东北方向转到沈半路，广济路，藕花洲大街与1号线相交。3号线位于城市的主要客流走廊上，目的是加强城市西面和东北面与城市中心的联系。

　　4号线：北边在火车东站与1号线形成双向同站台换乘，向南经新塘路、沿富春江路到钱江新城，往南预留了延伸至富阳的条件。该线连通1、2等线路，提供多个换乘机会，便于把主干线上的客流运送到更远的地区。另外，它还连接了火车东站和汽车南站等对外交通节点。

　　5号线：西起老余杭仓前地区，向东到登云路，经香积寺路、东新路和建国北路到城站火车站，再沿江城路过江，终点至萧山火车站。

　 6号线：位于江南沿江，西起浦沿，途经浦沿路、东信大道及中兴路，沿江边连接钱江世纪城再到钱江文化产业园。

　　7号线：西起钱江世纪城，向东走向与机场高速平行直至萧山国际机场，然后沿北一直到江东工业园。

　8号线：西起下沙二号大街，东向过江连接义蓬，再向东连接教育科研区，往东预留了伸延至江东东面工业区的条件。目前《杭州市轨道交通线网规划》已经上报国家有关部门审查。同时，杭州市城市规划设计院正在对沿线用地进行控制，充分保证未来杭州轨道交通线路、场站的用地。
