<FONT face=宋体> 广济桥又名通济桥、碧天桥，俗称长桥。广济桥横跨京杭运河，势若长虹。全长83米，高13米，上下共有169级台阶，为京杭运河上唯一的一座七孔石拱桥。中间最大的石拱跨度为15.6米，北南各有三个对应的石拱，跨度分别为11.8米、8米、5.4米。
     广济桥相传是由唐朝大将尉迟恭督修的。可据民国《杭县志稿》的编纂者查考，发觉尉迟恭一生中从未到过浙江，况且西险大塘及桥梁等建筑大抵在唐大历之后，与尉迟恭在世时相距200余年。后这200年后，又出了个尉迟恭，此人是个著名人石匠、建筑师，人称大匠尉迟恭。他是唐代宝历年间人，曾在西险大塘主持修建成章湾陡闸。由此看来，那“大将”应是“大匠”之误，此桥应是大匠尉迟恭所建，距今应有一千一百多年历史了。
     今存广济桥系明代弘治十一年（1498）由鄞人陈守清募建。明朝弘治年间，大匠所建之桥早已塌圯，百姓往来均靠摆渡，每逢风急浪高，总有人落水遇难。此时，宁波义士陈守清挺身而出，募资建桥。因所需资金甚巨，故陈守清便搭乘粮船至京城，以铁链束缚自身向来往官民募捐。此事惊动了官府，太后、太子纷纷助金赐银，朝廷命官也跟着解囊，使陈守清募到了巨款。历时九年，终于建成这七孔长桥，时为公元1498年。嘉靖九年（1530），桥裂，里人吕塘急公好义，两次捐巨金修耸，并用木材和石块在桥的两边各填一孔，使之成为五孔，使桥基更为坚固。清康熙癸卯年（1663），广济桥又危在旦夕，里人轻利急公，纷纷捐资，复又修葺，里人卓天寅为重修长桥书《重修长桥碑铭》。康熙甲午年（1714）又修迄于今。从上世纪90年代至今，政府为了保护广济桥，先后斥巨资对其进行加固，运河改道，实施封航等，从而有效保护七孔古桥——广济桥。
     1983年6月24日，余杭县人民政府将广济桥命名为“余杭县重点文物保护单位”，1989年又被命名为“浙江省重点文物保护单位”。</FONT></P>
